Anthi Hadjinikolaou “Sunlit Walls of the Aegean” – Silk Painting by Anthi,1990’s
In this luminous silk work, Anthi evokes the quiet poetry of a traditional Greek village bathed in midday sun. Stark white walls, gently weathered with time, rise in organic shapes and angles, forming a hillside composition that leads the eye upward toward a brilliant turquoise sky.
Touches of color—magenta, crimson, green, and golden ochre—spill across the facades like climbing bougainvillea or painted shutters, adding life and warmth to the structured stillness. The marbled silk technique introduces delicate crackle patterns that mimic the natural aging of stone and plaster, deepening the texture and soul of the piece.
Above, a flock of birds arcs gracefully through the sky, their curved forms echoing the fluid lines of the architecture below. The earth-toned foreground, sprinkled with leafy shapes, completes the scene with a sense of harmony.
This painting is a celebration of simple beauty—an homage to the enduring character of Greek island dwellings, and to the artist’s ability to capture emotion through minimalism and light.

Most of the items have the initials of the gentleman who ordered the set, perhaps adding pieces to the set through the years. Maybe the set was more extensive, because there were more pieces, that have been chipped or broken.
